Talking Tarni | Sustainability In Transportation
At Tarni Resources, we're proud to say that we're working towards increasing our sustainable practices in the transport sector. We're committed to our people, our partners, and our planet, and this commitment is guiding us towards a more sustainable future in transport services. Our journey towards sustainability isn't just about responding to global initiatives or the evolving technology landscape; it's also deeply rooted in a respect for the principles of caring for Country.
For First Nations Peoples, caring for Country is both an obligation and an honour, involving efforts that draw on cultural practices that have survived for over 60,000 years (AIATSIS, n.d.), ensuring that our land is kept in good health (Janke et al., 2021). This relationship with the land is reciprocal, highlighting the philosophy that if you "look after Country, Country will look after you" (Janke et al., 2021; Woodward & McTaggart, 2019). Our efforts align with this philosophy, understanding that sustainability involves a holistic approach that respects and integrates the knowledge of First Nations People.
A Vision for the Future
At the core of Tarni Resources lies a vision that goes beyond just meeting the immediate transport and logistics needs. Recognising the crucial role of sustainability in creating a better world, we're committed to practices that positively affect both today's and tomorrow's generations. This vision is based on the belief that true progress is achieved when development and environmental care go hand in hand. This notion is becoming increasingly relevant as disruptive technologies, e.g., the Internet of Things, transform our expectations and capabilities within the transport sector (Australian Government, n.d.).
Continuous Improvement
We're never satisfied with just doing "enough". Tarni Resources is on a constant journey of improvement, always looking for ways to boost our sustainability efforts in every part of our operations. This includes embracing the shift towards vehicle automation and electrification, which not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enhances safety, efficiency, and convenience for all users, as outlined by the Australian Government (n.d.). One of our most ambitious targets is to shift to a fully electric vehicle fleet. By choosing electric vehicles in Tarni’s future, we're proving that sustainability and efficiency coexist.
Measuring & Offsetting
We believe that being accountable is essential for real environmental progress. That's why we're exploring ways to measure and offset our carbon emissions. This initiative is a testament to our commitment not just to reducing harm, but to actively contributing to the restoration of our planet. Through carbon offsetting, we aim to support projects that help create a greener world and care for our land.
Partnering for a Sustainable Future
We know that achieving sustainability is not something we can do alone. We carefully assess the sustainability efforts of our strategic partners to ensure our supply chain and collaborations align with our environmental values. This approach highlights the importance of working together to face global environmental challenges, especially considering the unique challenges and opportunities presented by regional Australia's role in the transition to clean energy (Australian Government, 2024).
Prioritising Health and Wellbeing
Beyond just environmental concerns, the health and wellbeing of our team is paramount. We understand that a sustainable future cannot be separated from the welfare of our community. Hence, we're committed to fostering a workplace that promotes our employees' and stakeholders' cultural, physical, and mental health.
In a world that needs sustainable solutions, Tarni Resources is on a path towards greener transport options. With a clear vision, innovative efforts, and a dedication to working together, we show that the transport and logistics sector can contribute positively to solving our environmental issues. As we continue to grow and enhance our sustainability practices, Tarni stands as a beacon of how responsible business operations can drive meaningful change for our planet and its inhabitants, particularly as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of regional disparities and the global shift towards decarbonisation (Australian Government, 2024). Our commitment to sustainability is also a commitment to caring for Country, respecting the deep and enduring connection First Nations people have with the land, and recognising that in looking after the land, it looks after us all.
